Room for one more

New in Cabin. Share a site's analytics with your team or clients, see how far visitors scroll down each page, and keep your own IP addresses out of the numbers.

Until this week, the only way to show someone your Cabin dashboard was to send them a link. That works for a client report, but it's not much good for the person who actually helps you run the site.

So sites can now be shared, properly. Along with that, two features that have been live for a little while and never had a proper introduction: scroll depth, and excluding IP addresses.

Share a site with someone

Open a site's settings, find People, and add someone by email. The site shows up in their own Cabin account, next to their own sites. If they don't have an account yet, they get an email inviting them to make one, and the site is waiting for them once they have.

Each person is either a viewer, who sees the dashboard, or a manager, who can also change the site's settings. Only you can remove the site or change who has access.

The site still runs on your plan, so the people you add only need a free account. Plus shares with 2 people and Scale with as many as you like.

It works both ways round for agencies. Keep your clients' sites on your account and add each client, or have a client add you to the site on theirs as a manager, and you can do the whole setup from there (custom domain and Search Console included) without anything having to move.

How far do visitors scroll?

A page view tells you someone arrived. It doesn't tell you whether they read past the first paragraph.

Cabin now records how far down the page each visit got, as a share of the page's content. It's measured against the content rather than the whole page, so a long footer doesn't make a full read look like 75%. It rides along with the page view, adds no extra requests, and stays anonymous like everything else.

You'll find it in the Attention row on the dashboard, and per page in the page peek. Each row is the share of visitors who got at least that far:

The big drops are where people stop. I've found it most useful on long pages, where a steep fall halfway down usually means the page could lose its second half. It's on every plan, including Free.

Leave your own visits out

On a small site, your own visits can make up a fair chunk of the traffic. Every time you check a change, you count.

You can now list IP addresses and ranges in a site's settings, up to 30 of them, and visits from those addresses are dropped as they arrive. They're never counted or stored, so they don't show up anywhere. It's handy for an office, a VPN, or a staging server. Also on every plan.

If you move between networks, the browser flag still works too (it's in the docs).

And a few smaller things

  • Password-protected dashboards and Google Search Console have moved down from Scale to Plus.
  • The dashboard has a proper menu on phones, and Cabin supports adding to your home screen.

All of this is live now. If you're not on Cabin yet, try it free alongside whatever you use today, and see what the numbers look like without cookies.
